Best Egg for Breakfast Sandwich – The Ultimate Guide

  • Author: yassine essammany
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 1 breakfast sandwich 1x

Description

This Ultimate Breakfast Egg Sandwich is the perfect balance of flavors and textures—crispy on the outside, creamy and rich on the inside, with the egg stealing the show. Whether you prefer scrambled, fried, or poached eggs, this recipe guides you through creating a sandwich that’s satisfying, nutritious, and bursting with flavor. Perfect for busy mornings or leisurely brunches!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large eggs (free-range preferred)
  • 1 tbsp butter (for richness)
  • 1 tbsp milk or cream (optional, for extra fluffiness)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 brioche bun or bagel, toasted
  • 1 slice cheddar cheese (melts beautifully with eggs)
  • 2 slices crispy bacon or 1 sausage patty (optional for added protein)
  • 2 slices ripe tomato (optional)
  • ½ avocado, sliced (optional)
  • Hot sauce or spicy mayo (optional, for an extra kick)

Instructions

  • Whisk the Eggs: Crack the eggs into a bowl, add milk (if using), and season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Whisk thoroughly until well combined and slightly frothy.
  • Cook the Eggs:
    • For Scrambled Eggs: Melt butter in a non-stick pan over low heat. Pour in the eggs and stir gently with a spatula until soft, fluffy curds form. Remove from heat while slightly undercooked, as they’ll continue cooking from residual heat.
    • For Fried Eggs: Heat butter over medium heat. Crack eggs directly into the pan, cook until whites are set, and yolks are still runny (for sunny-side-up), or flip for over-easy eggs.
    • For Folded Eggs: Pour the whisked eggs into the pan, let set slightly, then gently fold the edges toward the center. Flip and fold again until you form a neat square.
  • Toast the Bread: Lightly butter the brioche or bagel and toast until golden and crisp.
  • Assemble the Sandwich: Layer the toasted bread with your cooked egg, followed by the cheese (allowing the heat to melt it), bacon or sausage, avocado slices, and tomato if using. Drizzle with hot sauce or spread spicy mayo if desired.
  • Serve Hot: Enjoy your ultimate breakfast sandwich fresh and warm for the best flavor and texture

Notes

  • Make-Ahead Tip: Prepare scrambled or folded eggs in advance. Store sandwiches wrapped in foil in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in the oven at 350°F until warmed through.
  • Variations: Add sautéed spinach, swap cheddar for pepper jack for a spicy kick, or try a vegetarian version with roasted mushrooms and Swiss cheese.
  • Expert Tip: For ultra-fluffy eggs, add a pinch of baking powder to the whisked eggs before cooking.
