Description

Paneer Butter Masala is a rich and creamy Indian curry made with soft paneer cubes simmered in a luscious tomato-based gravy. Infused with aromatic spices, butter, and cream, this dish is perfect for pairing with naan or basmati rice. A favorite in Indian restaurants, it’s surprisingly easy to make at home!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 200g paneer, cut into cubes
  • 3 large tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp dried fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi)
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat butter in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they sizzle, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until fragrant.
  • Pour in the tomato puree, add turmeric, red chili powder, salt, and sugar. Cook until the mixture thickens.
  • Stir in kasuri methi and paneer cubes. Mix well.
  • Add water and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Pour in heavy cream and garam masala, stirring gently.
  • Simmer for 2 more minutes, garnish with fresh cilantro, and serve hot with naan or basmati rice.

Notes

  • Adjust spice levels by reducing red chili powder or adding extra cream for a milder taste.
  • Use store-bought paneer or homemade for a fresher texture.
  • Kasuri methi enhances the authentic flavor—don’t skip it!
